Thousands of descendents and visitors came from around the world to participate in the unprescedented events she lead with the help of many committees and a cadre of volunteers. The US Capitol Rotunda, for the first time in history, opened for an event not associated with a state funeral. She worked tirelessly to ensure The National Park Service made the Spirit of Freedom a National Monument. It literally took an Act of Congress to accomplish that status. This National Monument stands proudly today at the corner of 12th & U Streets in NW Washington, DC.
